How Vocabulary Raises Your Common Core Test Scores

Vocabulary raises your Common Core score in 4 specific ways:

  1. High level words appear in all of the reading passages and if you don’t know the words, you won’t understand the passages, and won’t be able to answer the questions.
  2. High level words appear in the questions about the passages, and if you don’t know the words, you won’t understand what the questions are asking so you won’t be able to answer them correctly.
  3. High level words appear in the answer choices for questions about the reading passages, and if you don’t know the words, you won’t know what the answer choices mean and won’t know which ones are correct answers.
  4. The essay you write is graded on your use of verbal sophistication which means you have to use high level vocabulary words. If you don’t have a large vocabulary, you won’t be able to use high level words in your essay.
